March 24, 2009 – Team Will Meet in Thimpu Tomorrow

We learned by telephone this morning that Temba and the trekking team is making good time completing their route and that they plan to arrive at the road tomorrow, one day early. Alex, Edouard, Jim, Janet and Temba along with their Bhutanese trekking staff, and the ponies that have been carrying their equipment will arrive at the paved road and be picked up for a ride back to “civilization”.

Civilization for our weary and accomplished trekkers will no doubt revolve around the first hot showers, but once they are clean we expect they will enjoy being in Thimpu, the capitol city of the Kingdom of Bhutan.

Kit informed us by e-mail from Paro today that she, Bob and their guide Chendu had a great day Tuesday. They visited Paro Dzong. “What an amazing complex!” Kit reported, “We look forward to seeing it again with the group.” Bob and Kit were also appreciative that Chendu gave them a personal tour of his home and farm in the Paro Valley so that they could get a better taste of Bhutanese life.

Kit and Bob are going to Thimpu to meet the returning trekkers at the Riverside Hotel. The team has more days in this magical kingdom and with the trekkers off the trail we expect they will be keen to savor more days in “The Land of the Thunder Dragon.”
