Hi everyone! This is the second day of the actual climb. Last night we camped at a little over 8, 000 ft, which is not much different than our home in Ouray, Colorado. Today the day started out with crystal clear skies and for the first time we saw Kilimanjaro and all its majesty. Then the clouds started to come and eventually it started to pour. We were fortunate to be able to duck into a cook tent that we had set up. I was also fortunate to have rain gear and gaiters!

I am getting the deluxe star treatment, as I expected. The other groups think I am somebody rich and famous! I have 12 young men taking care of my every need. I would be in heaven if I were a woman! The only thing is that they are feeding me too much. It starts with tea in the morning with biscuits and a full breakfast. After breakfast we are off and a snack is packed which has all the goodies that you could ever want. When I’ve just gotten started on my snack, its lunch time! They cook up a wonderful lunch. Today for lunch we had a wonderful meat pie. At night we start with a snack in the evening (the only thing missing is a beer)! After the snack we have great supper and then it’s off to bed.

Tonight we are staying at about 11, 500 ft and I think after that the test will begin! I’m looking forward to seeing you all. Love, Dave.
