Why climb with Berg Adventures

Climb Aconcagua with Berg Adventures – Trip Itinerary

Day 1 – Flight to Mendoza, Argentina

Day 2 – Arrive in Mendoza. Transfer to your hotel in the heart of the city. We will have an orientation meeting and gear check.

Day 3 – In the morning, we will go to the Mendoza Provincial Park office in order to obtain our permits to climb Aconcagua. We will depart Mendoza and drive 3-4 hours by private shuttle to Penitentes near the Andean divide and the Chilean border. We will spend two nights in a hotel near the ski area in Penitentes. This will allow for great acclimatization opportunities.

Day 4 – Today we will visit the Chilean border and experience the thin air at 12,467ft/3,800m. When we return to the lower elevation of Penitentes in the afternoon, we will finish packing our duffel bags, which will be carried ahead of us by mules.

Day 5 – Our three day journey to Plaza de Mulas Base Camp begins today. We will start at the Aconcagua Provincial Park gate and follow the Horconoes River up the valley to Confluencia Camp, where our tents and duffel bags will be waiting for us.

  • Climbing/Trekking Time: 2-4 hours

Day 6 – Today we will hike to Plaza Francia at 13,945ft/4,200m. From here we will get a fantastic view of the mountain and it will give us an idea of the exciting days we have ahead. We will spend a second night at Confluencia Camp which will be critical for our acclimatization.

Day 7 – We will reach Plaza de Mulas Base Camp today. The camp is an exciting place where climbers at various stages of their expedition come to rest and recover. Every season a temporary tented village arises with such comforts as restaurants, showers and internet access.

Day 8 – Rest day at Plaza de Mulas. You may want to stretch your legs with a short day hike or prefer to relax at camp.

Day 9 – Today we will climb to Camp I - Plaza Canada (16,108ft/4,910m) to expose ourselves to this altitude and then we will return to Plaza de Mulas to sleep.

Day 10 – Our climb today will be familiar to us as we follow the same trail that we hiked yesterday to Plaza Canada. However, today we will feel stronger because we will already be used to the altitude. We will spend the next two nights at this camp.

Day 11 – Ascent to the Nido de Condores – the Condors’ Nest – at 18,300ft/5,579m, where we will stash our high-mountain equipment before going back down to Plaza Canada for the night.

Day 12 – Climb up to Nido de Condores, where we will spend the next two nights.

Day 13 – Today’s climb will take us to our high camp at 19,700ft/6,000m. We will enjoy the view from our camp and then head back down to the Condor’s Nest for the night.

Day 14 – We will return to Berlin High Camp again today, except this time we will set up camp and prepare for our summit attempt.

Day 15 – Summit day! We will have a long day, but exciting day, heading to the top of Aconcagua at 22,841 ft/6,962 m. After reaching the summit, we will descend to Berlin Camp for the night.

  • Climbing/Trekking Time: 9-13 hours round trip

Day 16 – Alternative summit days, or descent to base camp

  • Overnight Plaza de Mulas
  • Climbing/Trekking Time: Descent to Base Camp will take 3-4 hours

Day 17 – Alternative summit days, or descent to base camp

Day 18 – Alternative summit days, or descent to base camp

Day 19 – Hike down to Puente del Inca, where our transfer vehicle will meet us to take us back to Mendoza to the hotel for our last night.

Day 20 – Return flights to home country. BAI TRIP ENDS.

Day 21 – Arrival in home country.

Extra days are added to the itinerary in case of bad weather. If the team is doing well and we are lucky with the weather, we might be able to finish the trip a few days earlier.
