Why climb with Berg Adventures

Aconcagua Expedition Dispatch

January 8, 2020 – We Have Already Climbed to 4100 Meters (13,500 feet)

On Tuesday we drove to the ski area at Penetintes, along the Argentina, Chilean border near the Harcones entrance to Aconcagua Park. We will spend two nights at the excellent hotel here before we begin our trek on Thursday morning.

The weather was beautiful Wednesday morning so we drove up the road far enough to get our first views of the top of our mountain! The very summit was in the clouds by the vastness of Aconcagua was still stunning.

We used the good weather to drive to the remote dirt road pass between the two countries where the Cristo de Rendentor statue is located at 3800 meters above sea level.

Chilly mountain air! It felt good but it was also nice to descended back to the hotel in the afternoon. Osvaldo reports that the guys are all having a great time, they are excited and enjoying every moment of the adventure so far.

Breakfast is at 8:00 am tomorrow morning. The "Mule Bags" are already labeled for the animals start up the trail bound for our first actual camp on Aconcagua, at Confluencia. We will be there tomorrow. For now it is one last hotel dinner and evening showers. The real fun is about to begin!
