Kilimanjaro Expedition Dispatch
September 11, 2017 – Andrea, Adriana and Josh on the Summit of Kilimanjaro!
They made it! We got this great call from Erick today. It is an unbelievable accomplishment to climb Kilimanjaro and sleeping on top inside the Crater Rim makes the entire experience even more remarkable. Congratulations to the entire team: Tanzania, Brazil and US: everyone made it!
From Chief Guide Erick:
This is the voice of happiness, the voice of victory! Josh from the US and Andrea and Adrianna from Brazil have successfully made it to Uhuru Peak, the highest peak on the African continent. You can also call it the Roof of Africa, 5830 above sea level. Kilimanjaro is one of the Seven Summits and it is the highest freestanding mountain in the world. It took us four hours from our special camp Kosovo get to Stella Point, which is the first summit. Berg Adventures cook made delicious soup and snack there before we continued for another one hour to Uhuru Peak where we had a good view of the remaining glacier. Tonight we will sleep at Crater Camp 200 meters from the summit. It is beautiful here. It is a very good experience to be here, this is the experience of a lifetime. Everybody is happy. The weather is great. We look forward to descending tomorrow to Mweka Camp. Thank you for today, call you again tomorrow.
