Kilimanjaro Expedition Dispatch
September 6, 2017 – The Team Reached Shira Camp
BAI Chief Guide Erick Marimbo called us at about 2:30 PM local time in Tanzania today. He was walking just behind the team and they are in sight of “Shira 1” Camp where they will spend their second night on the mountain.
And they have had their first views of the top of Kili!
Erick said that it was cloudy yesterday afternoon during the teams walk to Big Tree Camp from the Lemosho Gate – no views of the mountain but they were entertained by both Colobus Monkeys and Blue Monkeys as they walked along the trail.
The elevation of Big Tree Camp where they spent their first night is 2650 meters (8600 feet). Tonight they will sleep at 3800 meters (12,600 feet) at Shira, so the acclimatization to higher altitudes is already underway.
Good luck Adriana, Andrea and Josh! You are doing great. Keep us posted.
