January 27, 2015 – Rest Day at Confluencia

It’s Tuesday afternoon at Confluencia Camp. Wow, what mild weather we have been having. It’s continued to be really warm with virtually no wind.

Nothing like beautiful weather to help a

great rest day at Confluencia Camp.

Now today is a side hike day like it always is. About half the Dirty Dozen decided to take off and go to our usual high point, about 3,800 m. A couple of the Dirty Dozen went about an hour up and decided to come back and lounge around camp. Some of the Dirty Dozen just stayed here, reading lounging and just enjoying the nice weather. It’s all acclimatization and that’s all good!

The entire group returned at about 3:30 in the afternoon. Angie is cooking for us here, Maria is still around and she brings out a lot of the Berg Adventures special treats from Canada and keeps the hot water on etc. But Angie is serving our meals, including our tea snacks here. We came back today and especially the hikers were really pleased to see the cold fruit salad and our usual dish of cubes of cheese, ham and olives. And we had popcorn as well as cookies and some things like that. And then Angie brought out another treat, a special treat for today, little individual pizza rounds. It was all delicious! We drank a lot of juice as well.

Now the group is just kind of resting and then we are going to go down and see the doctors at 5PM for our check up here at Confluencia. They will listen to our lungs and take our blood pressure of course and that key figure a lot of us are interested in, our percent oxygen saturation just to see how we are doing so far at altitude.
