January 27, 2014 – Reflecting at Plaza de Mulas Base Camp
It’s just before 4 PM on Monday and we have all made it to Plaza de Mulas, more the 1,700m down from Berlin Camp. I just walked the entire way with Margaret who said she was dreaming of a Coca-Cola and French fries and I am happy to report she has both of those things in front of her right now. Plaza de Mulas seems all we want from civilization at this point.
It started to snow just after we got here and that was 24 hours after our second summit team reached the summit, and it began to snow. They had a snowstorm and visibility problems during the entire descent. That is why it took them so many hours to get back.
It was also about this time yesterday that Marie-Jo, along with Sergio walked into Berlin Camp and it began to snow there.
Today it was a little windy on the upper mountain when we woke up. It was not all that easy to pack up at Berlin Camp. And a snow storm came up at the upper mountain just at the same time of the other levels today, just before four.
We are certainly where we want to be right now. Life is good at Plaza de Mulas. I think that there is even more luxury in our future. But we will keep you posted on that.
For the time being know that the entire accomplished team has returned to base camp. They look tired but they look really proud. They got a distant sort of look in their eye because they were at a very high altitude just 24 hours ago.
Congratulations team!
