January 20, 2014 – Our Acclimatization Hike to Piedras Conway
On Sunday we made our first climb around our base Camp, Plaza de Mulas. Our goal was Piedras Conway (Conway Rocks) at an elevation of 4750 m (15,600ft). The weather is beautiful! Some teams are descending from the upper mountain and reporting very difficult conditions – lots of snow and avalanches. For the past three days no one has reached the summit. But for us, still at lower elevations where we are allowing our bodies to adapt, the conditions could not be better.
Margret took all these photos and we think that they will show that our team is doing great as they acclimatize!
