Doc Martin 75th Birthday Kilimanjaro Expedition Dispatch
June 17, 2012 – Photos from Barranco Camp
Yesterday we had a beautiful day at Barranco Camp where the views of the Western Breach were incredible. The time we spent acclimatizing at Barranco Camp and exploring the nearby terrain was great fun and invaluable for our coming efforts on the mountain. Giving our bodies time to get used to the altitude will be the key to our success in the days to come.
Today was a long and challenging day and our rest and acclimatization paid off. We climbed the infamous Barranco Wall, a 1000ft/330m precipice that we switchbacked and scrambled up. It was not easy, but it was a rewarding challenge. We arrived at our camp, Karanga Camp, at 3 pm today. Everyone is doing a great job. We will post photos from the Barranco Wall and Karanga Valley tomorrow, so stay tuned!
Happy Father’s Day!

The sweethears, Susan and Steve. After their 19th year of marriage, Steve tells us that he is a Martin for life now.

The peace and majesty of the African landscape is always with us. Berg Adventures guide Emmanuel was seen taking it all in during the late afternoon.
