Why climb with Berg Adventures

Everest Base Camp Trek Dispatch

May 3, 2012 – We Made it to Lobouche , at 16,000 feet, on the Edge of the Khumbu Glacier

Ang Temba called us from Base Camp this Thursday evening. It is snowing lightly at Everest Base Camp this evening and the climbing teams on the mountain are feeling shut down by high winds and dry conditions on the upper mountain.

Meanwhile, just down the Khumbu Glacier from Base Camp. Dave, Joanne, Min and Jaythai arrived at their lodge in Lobouche around 3:30 in the afternoon. The first thing Min did was to call Base Camp and report that Dave and Joanne are feeling well. We know that they will be resting well in Lobouche because, despite the high elevation, the beds in the lodge they are in tonight are probably the best of the entire trek.

The walk from Pheriche to Lobouche is beautiful. With spectacular peaks such as Towache, Cholatse and, Lobuche Peak itself, rising above the trail. Just after lunch Dave and Joanne climbed onto the terminal moraine of the Khumbu glacier. Now we are really in the mountains! We hope the team does rest well tonight because tomorrow is a big day. They will move to Gorak Shep, at 16,800 feet, the last outpost before Everest Base Camp.
