Kilimanjaro Expedition Dispatch

January 24, 2012 – On to Shira I Camp

Hi Rafael here. We are in the middle of day two of our hike. We did really well yesterday and slept at Big Tree Camp. Everyone is doing great! We have been enjoying music and dance and awesome food. We are having very good, fresh meals. Julius our guide is taking really good care of us. We were excited in the beginning, almost sprinting, so he told us, “Pole, pole,” which means “Slowly, slowly”.

We are excited to reach Shira I camp tonight. All in all we are having a wonderful time. We’ll send another update soon!

Yesterday we hiked through thick forest.

We got a glimpse of the mountain ahead through the trees.

Out of the forest and onto the wide open plains. Kilimanjaro lies ahead.
