Aconcagua Expedition Dispatch
January 28, 2012 – The Team Reaches Berlin High Camp
We’re here at Berlin High Camp 19,470ft/5,934m above sea level and it is beautiful here. The entire team made it. We will make our summit attempt tomorrow and everybody is looking great; we have everything we need here.
When Paul and Lisa walked up to this camp, it came with a great deal of pride and, I have to say, exhaustion as well. But the pride came from the fact that they each set a new personal altitude record. This camp is 130ft/40m higher than Uhuru peak the summit of Kilimanjaro where they stood with Berg Adventures staff last year. I’m really proud of Lisa and Paul; I am proud of Paule, Linda, Howard and Winston as well. They have all been training for this and dreaming of this for a long time. And here we are.
It is beautiful. There is a great mountain above us. What we are trying to do is right in front of us. It is going to be a cozy night and a satisfying night, I am sure. Maria has the kitchen tent up and the Berlin Camp A-frame shack is here as well. The rest of us have our North Face tents. We’ll be settling down soon to get plenty of rest before we set out to climb to the summit of Aconcagua.
