Kilimanjaro Expedition Dispatch
February 18, 2011 – On the Way to Shira I Camp
Hi, this is Dave and Joanne Genyk calling from the trail on the second day of our trek. We’re about three-quarters of the way to our destination here.
Yesterday we went through the rainforest and we came out of the rainforest today. I am climbing the mountain here—the uphill stretch—with about an hour and a half until we are done for the day. We’re having a great time. Julius and Eric are taking excellent care of us and we sure appreciate it. To all of you following us, we’re doing good and it sure is beautiful here. We’d like to say hi to Tyler, Chris, Cory, Tucker and all our family and friends—we love you. Tyler, don’t forget to tell grandma that we’re doing well and we’re having the time of our life. Bye.
Note: Joanne and Dave will spend their second night on the mountain at Shira I camp at 11,450ft/3,500m. Tomorrow they will make their way to Moir Camp through the lava rocks and into the alpine desert, so stay tuned!
