Why climb with Berg Adventures

Keg Spirit Foundation Kilimanjaro Expedition Dispatch

August 13, 2010 – At Kossovo Camp, Preparing for Tomorrow's Summit

I'm calling you from 16,000ft at our special camp, Kossovo Camp, which we have all to ourselves. We are only about 3000ft below Stella Point and the Crater Rim which we hope to climb tomorrow. Today we took an easy morning at Karanga Camp to dry out all of our clothing and gear that had become so wet in yesterday's rain.

Our private campsite is like a small village.

Our private campsite is like a small village.

Also we're organizing our porters. A large number of them are going over today to establish the forest camp, Mweka Camp, where we'll spend our last night on the mountain. They're carrying food we don't need higher on the mountain, rubbish we've generated so far on the climb, and preparing for our descent.

The Keg Spirit Foundation Climbing Team and all of our direct staff and a lot of the porters moved up higher and higher today and here we are now at this beautiful camp. The guys were singing and dancing as we arrived and the Keg team showed perfect acclimatization and energy as they came in. I was really surprised.

So we'll sleep well tonight. We'll listen to some of those groups that have to climb through the night and walk past us, probably around two in the morning. And we'll ascend all the way to the Crater Rim tomorrow in the daylight. The team is doing great, I'm really proud of them. The camaraderie with the staff is amazing, the bond is growing stronger every day. We're really having a lot of fun at high altitude here in Africa.
