Aconcagua Expedition Dispatch
January 23, 2010 – Safe and Sound at Berlin Camp
It’s just before 6pm and I’m calling you from inside my tent at Berlin Camp, and it’s currently snowing quite hard outside. Snow was in the forecast and we knew the morning would be clear but that we might have snow this afternoon.
The group that was on the summit with me has basically had a 16-hour day. We woke up 16 hours ago and we’ve been moving for 14 of those hours. It’s been great, people have been strong, we’ve enjoyed each other’s company and we especially enjoyed standing on the top of Aconcagua together. And now, wow, are we tired!
We’ll see if the snow continues or if we’ll have clear weather to pack up and start heading down to our base camp at Plaza de Mulas, which is going to seem like paradise when we arrive tomorrow. Something tells me we are all going to sleep very well tonight!
