Everest Base Camp Trek Dispatch
October 2, 2008 – Jerome Arrives at Gosain Kunda
Today we began our day with porridge and chapatti bread for breakfast, then up we went to our final destination, Gosain Kunda at 4,350 m. The weather this morning was nice but we can see the clouds coming.
We passed by fellow trekkers from France and Israel. My guide taught me the Nepalese word ‘Bistari’, which means slowly, to remind myself to slow down. The trail itself is quite easy and well maintained.
When we stop for lunch at Laurebina (3,900 m), it was cloudy and windy. I can feel minor effects of altitude as we go up so we're taking our time.
Eventually we arrived at Gosain Kunda in the late afternoon. I asked Min to continue so we could gain more elevation for acclimatization sake (sleeping at lower elevation is preferable). So we took off our equipment and backpacks to make things a little easier. As I was climbing up I could feel a little headache coming on so I called it a day. I returned to our lodge, had a little nap and then woke up feeling much better.
Tomorrow we will climb up again to a view point. Talk to you then.
