Kilimanjaro Expedition Dispatch
September 19, 2008 – Dave and Ginny Spot their First Cheetahs!
“From the snows of Kilimanjaro to the plains of Serengeti”, sounds a little too poetic for a couple of old hacks like us!
Our guide David put us on two beautiful cheetah sightings. One just after his kill was stolen by hyenas and another beautiful mother and a cub. Our first cheetahs!
We also had an awesome encounter between a pride of lions and an elephant family; the true “king of the jungle” is yet to be determined. We also saw many other animals including a couple of close calls with lions and one leopard sighting.
Tomorrow we start the long trip home from the Serengeti to Arusha and on. We have many memories and pictures to share!
Love to all, Dave and Ginny.

Cheetahs thrive in areas with vast landscapes and where food is abundant. They are carnivores and while most other big cats mainly hunt by night, the cheetah likes to hunt first thing in the morning when it’s not yet hot outside.
