Kilimanjaro Expedition Dispatch
September 8, 2008 – We’ve Arrived Safely in Tanzania!
Hello from David and Ginny Gilchrist! We have arrived in Tanzania. We had a nice, uneventful trip that took about 30 hours.
We are now in our beautiful little hotel in Arusha. We’ve had a great time already, going out on some early hikes. The Berg staff is great and we are looking forward to starting David’s climb and Ginny’s hunt for the Maasai and Bushmen tomorrow. Bye for now!

Kilimanjaro with its three volcanic cones, Kibo, Mawenzi, and Shira, is an inactive stratovolcano in north-eastern Tanzania. It rises 4,600 m (15,100 ft) from its base, and is additionally the hightest peak in Africa. The views of Kilimanjaro are stunning from the surrounding plains.

The Maasai are an indigenous African ethnic group of semi-nomadic people located in northern Tanzania. They are among the most well-known African ethnic groups internationally. They speak the traditional languages of Tanzania, Swahili and English.
