Kilimanjaro Expedition Dispatch
July 11, 2008 – Team Arrives at Lava Tower
It is about 6pm on the 11th and the team arrived all doing well to the Lava Tower Camp no problems at all. As I told you earlier this camp at 15,000 ft. is a new personal altitude record for the entire Huffines family team. We got here earlier today, we arrived for lunch and we came a shorter distance because we are climbing at a higher altitude. Lunch consisted of vegetable soup, followed by tuna fish
sandwiches and potato chips, and finally we had really nice shish kabobs with fresh meat, carrots and onions. For dessert we had fresh fruit. We walked in the clouds mostly today which is not unusual, but now there is a glorious clear evening beginning with a sunset and Kibo 4,000 feet above us with the glaciers lying on top glowing in the beautiful sunset.
The team is doing great. This will be our coldest and highest night yet, but I anticipate all going well and refreshed to continue our journey tomorrow.
