Kilimanjaro Expedition Dispatches

March 17, 2008 – Arriving at Shira Camp; an Amazing Adventure

Jambo, this is Laura, second day up Kili on the Machame Route. We are having the time of our lives! I can’t even tell you how much fun it is. We have the most awesome crew, we have Julius and John guiding us up the trail and making us go Pole - Pole (slow -slow). It has just been an absolute blast. The day started off with a harmonica playing, and the whole team singing and dancing and getting wild, it has just been great. I am very thankful for a beautiful day, minimal rain today which was nice; at least we weren’t hiking in it the entire day. Our spot at Shira point was beautiful this evening, we got to watch the sunset through the clear skies. It was an incredible day. Now I am going to pass the phone over to Jane.

Jambo! Today we began our day climbing up to Shira camp. The views were magnificent. We saw beautiful flowers, we hiked through the moorlands, and then we experienced a little bit of rain. We ended the day with an amazing sunset, and a wonderful home cooked 5 star meal. We are just having a wonderful time here at Shira camp. We look forward tomorrow, our hike up to the Baranco trail. Good night.
