Ecuador Volcanoes Expedition Dispatch

November 12, 2019 – After Successful Cotopaxi Summit, Melody’s Adventures in Ecuador Continue

Melody got her mountain! We’ve been talking to her throughout the year since her 2018 attempt of Cotopaxi with Berg Adventures. She had set her mind and her heart on reaching the top this time. The excitement was high here in the office and in Ecuador when we got the call from Joaquin that she was on the summit of Cotopaxi. She came down exhausted and deservedly proud.

The first stop after coming off the mountain was Berg Adventures long-time favourite hot springs site, the beautiful, relaxing resort at Termas Papallacta. Melody spent two nights at this idyllic and restful site in the upper Amazon. The soaks in the hot springs and the clean sheets and nice rooms were well deserved. Melody told us the first day she was at Termas that she had talked things over with Joaquin and that she planned to make the most of her custom adventure in Ecuador.

Cotopaxi was the big goal for her and there’s much else to do in this country full of natural and cultural wonders.

The photos are still coming in, we look forward to following along with Melody and learning more about a few of the adventures to be had.

The Caves of Jumandy was one of the first stops after leaving Termas Papallacta. The caves got their name during a turbulent time in the history of Ecuador. In the 1500s, during the wars between the Ecuadorians and the Spanish Jumandy was a leader of the Ecuadorans who bravely resisted the Colonial powers from Spain. The Caves remain as a honour to him and as a symbol of an important time in the Ecuadorian History. The mud pools here are thought to be medicinal. Good for a climbers weary muscles!
