Everest Base Camp Trek Dispatch

April 18, 2017 – Back to Chomrong

Nancy Souza

David Cohn

Dispatch by David Cohn

Back in Chomrong for tonight, heading for Gandruk tomorrow, then Pokhara and Kathmandu.

Got stopped by deep glacial valley in attempt to get to Tent Peak basecamp. Others did as well. Valley had vertical walls and crumbling rock. Could not rappel guides and porters with gear to that depth safely. The condition of the past few years are hanging on.

Of course the views from Annapurna basecamp are a good reason for this classic trip, very challenging, with many Namche style sustained up and down.

Rained like crazy this afternoon at Chomrong, and Min said it means lots of snow at Annapurna that could make it difficult to get into and out of Annapurna Basecamp. We got to our lodge about half hour before downpour. Very lucky!

Many nationalities represented making it interesting. Happy to see lots of old guys!
