July 2, 2015 – Hiking Above Terskol, Rental Gear and Life in the Caucasus

Our first stop on our hike above the village of Terskol today was a beautiful waterfall.

The team walked behind the waterfall to cool down from strong midday sun.

Our hike was above the village of Terskol.

In Terskol the memory of WWII which ended 70 years ago is important. Local people fought heroic resistance to Nazi occupation. We will see memories to this era on the slopes of Elbrus.

Our life in the Elbrus Region is simpler now. Sign on tee shirt in a shop window: “life is simple: eat, sleep, climb Elbrus”

Sign outside a restaurant in Cheget

There are a lot of restaurants to choose from.

The restaurants and shops with Wi-Fi are popular with climbers returning from Elbrus.

Our business in town today was the rental shop.

Heather trying on double boots

Nic found what he needed right away.

Heather took a while trying on down jackets.

Perfect fit – it looks funny in the valley, but it will be important high on Elbrus.

After hiking and gear rental, yes, we do Saunas in Russia!.
