October 28, 2014 – Blessed by a Lama, Yak Burgers and Village Life in Pangboche
Ang Temba called us today with an update. The team has already reached Pheriche, at 14,200 feet, where they will spend the next two nights acclimatizing before they move higher.
But the stories are all about Pangboche, where they spent the night on Monday.
Temba’s wife, Yangzing, made the Berg Adventures team feel more than just welcomed, as she always does. Dinner on Monday night was Yak Burgers, served with fresh baked buns which were baked by the monks at Tangboche. The burgers were served with fresh salad and for dessert, the team enjoyed chocolate covered “Glacier Melts”, a favorite of Berg Adventures’ Leila, who is in Canada in the office for this trip, but who is always mentioned when Yangzing serves Glacier Melts.
On Tuesday, the group received a blessing from Lama Geshi, who has been serving Sherpas and offering blessings to foreign adventurers from his home near the Pangboche Monastery for decades.
The mountains above the group remain high, clear and beautiful as they ascend higher. We will keep you informed of how they are feeling as the air gets thinner, the temperature is colder and they approach the glaciers.
