Elbrus Expedition Dispatch
July 11, 2013 – Some Photos from Our Summit Day
As we got off the second snowcat, the more powerful one driven by Arthur, the sun was beginning to lighten the sky to the east.
Climbing as the sun rises over the Caucasus Mountains in the early morning is a fantastic experience.
Vladimir Bakhmutov encouraged us on.
Our additional guide for the summit day, Alex, with the first light hitting the West Summit.
The team climbing higher
Moving high above the Caucasus is spectacular.
Approaching the Saddle at 5,300 meters.
Rafael was capturing the spectacular morning on the GoPro.
Rob enjoying being high up on Elbrus.
Chuck is a tough guy. He pushed hard on summit day, but was ready to smile at the beauty around him.

Rafael was overjoyed to be so high and having such a good day.
Vladimir Kopylov’s smile shows how much he still loves being high on Elbrus even though he has made more than 140 ascents of the mountain.
Vladimir and Terri climb above 5,500 meters. This was a special day for Terri. She had turned back at the Saddle on her Berg Adventures climb of Elbrus 2009.
