Berg Adventures 2013 Everest Expedition Dispatch

April 28, 2013 – Resting at Camp II until Weather Improves

Full moon on Everest Base Camp

Full moon on Everest Base Camp

We got up at 2am this morning. We had quite the surprise right after we went to bed though…there was long rolling thunder that lasted for a long time. It started about 9:30pm and right after that there was quite an intense snow storm. So when we woke up at 2am this morning for the guys to start their trip up to the icefall down to Camp II, we had a considerable amount of new snow on the ground. By the time we woke up, a nearly full moon was up, every star was in the sky so it was perfectly clear as the guys started climbing. Todd reached Camp II first; he called and reported to us at just past noon that he was there. Steve and Daniel came along a little later. Steve and Daniel experienced some quite high winds, Todd did too as well but I think the winds picked up as they were climbing the Western Cwm. Steve told me by radio that it was probably 40 miles per hour as they were climbing from Camp I to Camp II.

We are watching the weather and will make decisions of their move to Camp III based on that and other factors, but we’ll keep you posted. Tomorrow, we will send up A Rita and Tshering so they’ll have a re-supply at Camp II but today they’re doing great up there.
