Ecuador Volcanoes Expedition Dispatch
November 17, 2012 – Standing in the Middle of the World
Our trip is sadly coming to an end. On our last night, we had an amazingly beautiful night in Chimborazo. The view of our sunset was fantastic, and we enjoyed yet another great game of monopoly.
Today, we woke up really early and after a 4-hour drive, we arrived in Quito and visited the Intinan Solar Museum. We learned a lot of interesting things about Ecuadorian culture, including how to shrink the head of someone you’ve beaten in battle, caught a glimpse of the infamous Candiru fish, and of course, we walked along the line of the equator. There is much controversy surrounding the actual location of the equator—some argue if it is even there or not! It’s really up to you to decide whether to believe the experiments and demonstrations museums and other locals conduct to support their individual claim.
One thing is for sure, this has been an incredible trip! We’ve had a lot of successful climbs and we’ve learned a lot about Ecuador. We will miss the people, the culture, the history, the views, and most certainly, the freshly squeezed fruit drinks that are right at our fingertips!
