May 2, 2011 – Journey Through Tangboche to the “Sky Lounge”
May 2nd was a day full of beauty, surprise and emotion of all of us. For Doc, Dennis, Jackie, Woodie and Line, the long trail that leads to Tangboche Monestary was a return journey, one that had been dreamed about for years. For others of us, each impression was new. Stories were told throughout the day. It took us four hours on the trail to reach the monastery. We arrived to a peaceful, contemplative atmosphere. After a few hours, we moved along the trail to Pangboche and the comforts of the “Sky Lounge” at Ang Temba and Yangzing’s lodge in Pangboche at 13,100ft/3993m.
Before we left Khumjung, Mathes visited with a Tibetan refugee monk who is studying at the monestary above Khunde.
Four hours later Jackie and Min walk into Tangboche.
Sara and Mathes arrive at Tangboche.

We walk the long steps up to the gompa.
In the courtyard, Temba explained about the yearly activities at Tangboche Gompa, such as the dance festival Mani Rimdu.
Temba and Bob marvel at the artwork all around the courtyard.
Inside we saw the massive Buddha watching over the monk’s prayer room.

Later at Pangboche in the early evening we had this view of Ama Dablam out the window from our dining table in the “Sky Lounge”
