October 26, 2010 – Our "Rest Day" in Paine Grande

This is Leila Silveira reporting from Paine Grande. Today was meant to be a rest day with which each member could explore the park at their own pace. In the end, nobody really rested, though!

George and I were up early to take advantage of a beautiful sunrise and the photogenic light. All we had to do was to step outside our lodge onto the front porch to have a clear view of all the mountains around us.

Then we all went out for a hike, taking advantage of a beautiful day with no wind and the best weather possible here in Patagonia. Roberto Carlos suggested that we hike along Lago Pehoe where we might see a puma. It didn’t happen, but we did see lots of traces of them around.

The goal of today’s hike was to see a park viewpoint and it was a perfect day for that goal. We had clear views with beautiful mountain reflections on the lake.

Well, tomorrow is our last leg of the "W" circuit. After that we will go back to our lodge at Las Torres and then it's off to Puerto Natales and Punta Arenas where the expedition ends for me, George and Reginald. Sue and Sharon will be extending their trip with a few days spent on Cape Horn, where they will be staying at Lakutaia Lodge. George and Reginald will return back to Buenos Aires where I am sure that tangos and nice dinners will be in their plans.
