Berg Adventures Joints In Motion Patagonia Trek Dispatch

October 16, 2010 – Soaking in Some Culture in Buenos Aires

Leila Silveira reporting from Buenos Aires, the capital of Argentina, on our first day of our Patagonia program. So far we have been really blessed with fantastic weather; today was an amazing sunny, warm day where you could see “Porteños” ( the name for locals of Buenos Aires) smiling and going for a walk on the street.

George and Reginald arrived a day early and spent the entire day at “La Boca," the area where the tango was born, taking photos nonstop of several street shows. Sharon and Sue arrived later in the afternoon and were really looking forward to stretching their legs after a long flight so they also went out to see a little of Buenos Aires.

Our hotel is located in fashionable Recoleta. This area became a famous residential area in 1871 when wealthy families moved here due to a yellow fever outbreak in the city centre.

Our hotel is a block from Ortiz Plaza, which is lined with cafes and restaurants, and next to the Recoleta Cemetery, where Eva Peron is buried, among other illustrious figures of Argentina’s history.

We sat down for a snack in a street restaurant where we ended up meeting with Sue and Susan.

Later, we had our welcome dinner all together and talked about our plans for the next two weeks, starting tomorrow with a flight to El Calafate. After enjoying this very cosmopolitan city, we will finally be in the mountains where we'll begin to explore the Argentinean side of Patagonia.
