July 28, 2010 – Jack and Scott arrive in St. Petersburg

The call came in to Berg Adventures office in Canada at 5:30 PM local time in St. Petersburg Russia. Lina was calling to tell us that Jack and Scott had arrived no problem. Jack has been flying pretty much non -stop for two days, having left Texas on Tuesday. Scott has spent much of the summer in Holland, so his travel today to Russia was much less demanding.

It’s hot in St. Petersburg this week! Lina told us that it was still 37 degrees C (99 F) as they were driving into the city from St. Petersburg’s Pulkova 2 airport. Both Moscow and St. Petersburg have been seeing record breaking high temperatures all summer long, so we will hope some cloud cover, or perhaps some cooling breezes from the Baltic Sea and the Gulf of Finland will make the guys' walking tour with Lina pleasant tomorrow.

If they stay awake to check out Nevsky Prospect, Russia’s most vibrant and interesting avenue, tonight Jack and Scott will have to adjust to the long daylight hours of the sub arctic north. St. Petersburg is located at 60 degrees north, the same latitude as Anchorage, Alaska!

The guys are going to “hit the ground running” on their first full day in Russia tomorrow. Lina has a very full day planned for them. They will check out some of St. Petersburg’s most famous attractions including the Hermitage Museum. Stay tuned for reports from the guys as they begin their travels and adventures in Russia.
