Bolivia Expedition Dispatch
June 16, 2010 – Hike to Cerro Austria
This is Leila Silveira reporting from Bolivia. Today the team went on one of my favorites hikes.
Cerro Austria, at an altitude of 5,300m / 17,384ft is a beautiful peak and an excellent acclimatization hike. The weather has been excellent on our trip so far. That is normal for this time of year, but it always feels like a blessing to have blue skies in the mountains.
The next few days will be dedicated to learning some climbing skills in preparation for our climb of Pequeno Alpamayo, which reaches an altitude of 5,370m / 17,618ft. Today’s climb of Cerro Austria was an excellent beginning to our expedition here in Bolivia.
