Big Brothers Big Sisters Everest Base Camp Trek Dispatch

May 16, 2010 – Heading Down to Pheriche

This is Leila Silveira reporting from Pheriche. After two exciting days in Gorak Shep it is time to head homeward. Living at this altitude is not an easy task and everyone is really looking forward to some thicker air.

We left at our usual time of 9 am and today we had one extra member joining our team, George, Jamie Clarke's close friend. He hasn't been feeling great at altitude and going down is the only way to get him feeling better.

After breakfast we started our long trek, retracing our steps down to Pheriche, a place that no one considered especially warm just a few days ago. But after having been up high, it seems like a dream with hot showers, sort-of-fast internet, lower altitude and a very nice and warm lounge.

As I am writing this dispatch, Jamie Clark and Scott Simper from the Berg Adventures-Hanesbrands team are currently sleeping on the South Col, waiting for the right window to do their summit attempt.

We are pretty excited about it and I am now going to get inside my sleeping bag, which is nice and warm, and keep thinking about how Jamie and Scott must be doing up there.

Well we will keep you updated, Pheriche standing by!
