Jamie Clarke’s Expedition Hanesbrands Everest Dispatch

April 24, 2010 – Jamie and Scott Climb on Lhotse Face

The hard blue ice of the Lhotse Face stretches from 22,000 feet all the way to the South Col, at 26,000 feet where we will have our High Camp. Camp II will be located in the middle of the Face, on small ledges of ice. Today Jamie and Scott ventured above Camp II for their first taste of climbing on the Lhotse Face. It was cold and windy at times but the sky was blue and the climbing was thrilling.

At the base of the face climbers must cross a giant Bergschrund, a deep split in the glacier.
