On the 20th we headed up the Khumbu Glacier all the way to the site of Everest Base Camp
Left: There were no climbing teams at B.C. but we found a legend there, Ang Nima, the “Ice Fall Doctor”, who has been in charge of maintaining the ladder and rope route through the dangerous Khumbu Icefall for many years;
Right: Ang Nima first climbed on an Expedition with Wally Berg 20 years ago, in 1989. His first trip to Everest was with Chris Bonnington in 1975. He shared many stories with us at the base of the Icefall.

On the 21st Leila and the main trekking team headed down valley toward Lukla and the flight to Kathmandu. Lovinder was ready to go!
Sara also went down to visit the doctors a the HRA clinic in Pheriche and attempt to jump start here acclimatization, which has not been going so well to this point.
On the 22nd, those of us who remained at base climbed Kala Pattar. Jamie and his climbing team were far above us on the steep slopes of Pumori. Charlie and Mike found Kala Pattar to be challenging enough!
Just before we reached the very top of Kala Pattar Charlie paused to take in the view

From the top we had an excellent view of Pumori and Jamie’s steep climbing route
Of course, the ultimate goal, the summit of mount everest was before us
