Pumori Climbing Expedition Dispatch
October 16, 2009 – Resting in Pheriche
This is Leila reporting from Pheriche. We have been busy as usual; in the morning the film crew worked hard with Jamie until 11am. When the gear bags arrived from Namche they started working on dividing the gear amongst the team and the Sherpas.
By the end of the day there were many Sherpas from our team wearing the champion hats and jackets.
In the afternoon we went to the HRA for their daily 3pm lecture; it was excellent as usual. This time they showed a Gamow bag and explained how to use it and how useful and important it is to have one during an emergency.
When they requested a volunteer to go inside the bag, Paul quickly jumped to the opportunity and volunteered. Moments later he was inside the bag and Todd gave him his altimeter in order for us to check how it works and how quickly and effective it can be.
The only comment that Paul had right after getting out of the bag was how warm it was as inside. The film crew shot the entire lecture and got the whole scene on record.
We currently have internet in Pheriche and it works quite well with a solar panel. Jamie was working with the BGAN device (the device for the satellite system we use on the mountain in order to have internet) while most of us made a quick stop at the cyber café to catch up with friends and family.
Tomorrow we will be moving quite high. Lobuche is our next stop. We will keep you updated!
