Pumori Climbing Expedition Dispatch
October 12, 2009 – Pizzas, Cokes and Lots of Shopping on Our Rest Day!
Today we had our acclimatization day and of course we spent the day in Namche. No better place, lots of options, shopping and internet, even a little hiking, as if Namche hill the day before wasn’t enough exercise for us.
The team has finally received all their bags, except for Sara’s climbing duffel which should be here tomorrow. The main challenge was making sure it arrived in Lukla. We recently received word that it did!
The team is doing really well. We have had a few minor headaches and stomach problems, which are normal; nothing that a Tylenol or Aleve couldn’t take care of.
The day was mainly spent in downtown Namche, with lots of shopping and long stops at their famous bakeries.
The Everest Bakery is by far my favorite one and the team decided to make it our headquarters. The film crew established themselves there and did several interviews with the climbers inside the bakery.
The weather was not that great so we decided to cancel the hike to the Everest viewpoint and just relax and enjoy a day off.
So it was a perfect day for resting and to buy a few items to compliment our expedition gear such as: booties, pack covers, toiletries and bandanas, just to name a few.
Scott and Aenea spent a lot of time inside Tsedam’s shop, the best in Namche and the only one where you can actually buy original gear from North America. Tsedam is also very honest about what is a knock off from China and the real thing.
Tomorrow we will leave Namche and visit Khunde on our way to Khumjung where we will spend the night.
Khumjung is located at 3,790m/12,434ft. If the weather is clear we will be able to have great views of Kantega, Thamserku and Ama Dablam.
We will keep you posted with our upcoming adventures!
