Why climb with Berg Adventures

Everest Base Camp Trek Dispatch

May 7, 2009 – A Gradually Ascending Sashay

The team is having a wonderful journey; each day is magical. We have the grandest mountains in the world, spiritual and cultural depth, and comradeship with the team members and the Sherpa staff.

As we climb to higher and higher elevations on the trail to Everest Base Camp, our steps are measured. We have begun to describe our trekking style as a gradually ascending sashay. We are relaxed and carefree even though we are pushing our bodies as we climb the sometimes steep trails and breathe the thinner air.

Popcorn is afternoon tradition for us

Popcorn is afternoon tradition for us

Our routines are comfortable to say the least. Every afternoon we reach our lodge and enjoy a large pot of fresh popcorn, warm from Phuri’s kitchen. The boys also all order beer. Then the Sherpa’s know there will be a request for another pot of popcorn. One would think that would hold the team over until one of Phuri’s complete suppers are served around 6:30 p.m., but the team has established a tradition of appetizers between popcorn and dinner. The Khumbu is famous for its potatoes and when this group discovered how good the fresh cut Khumbu potatoes prepared as French fries, the tradition started. They don’t even have to ask for them anymore, they are always served every afternoon.

Don’t work about the health and conditioning of our mountaineers! Mountaineer Rob Dunn and Steve assure us each day that they lose at least one more kilo along the demanding trails of the Khumbu Valley. Whether this is true or not, I can assure you that our team is growing stronger in spirit, mind and body every step of the way along this adventure-filled trail.
