Brendsel's Island Peak and Lobuche Peak Expedition Dispatch

November 16, 2008 – Leland and Michael Back in Kathmandu!

Here at the Berg Adventures office in Canada we received our daily call from Ang Temba with news of Leland and Michaels adventures in Nepal. What a surprise when we heard Temba say, “I am calling you from Kathmandu”. We knew that the guys had decided to head back early, but we had no idea that they would be so lucky as to walk into Lukla on Sunday and get on a plane to Kathmandu the same day!

But their plane did take off from the Lukla airstrip at 11:00 AM, so they were back at the Hyatt Hotel for lunch. The Brendsel’s flight back to the US will depart on the afternoon of the 18th, so they will have some time to recuperate from a long and demanding trek in the comfort of the city.

Here at BAI we have been talking about how Leland and Michael have completed one of the most difficult Nepal treks that we have ever had a team do. Crossing the two remote passes, Renjo La and Cho La and then climbing 20,000 ft. Lobuche Peak is an advanced accomplishment in our book. A remarkable feat for these two self described novices to mountaineering.

We will close the Brendsel dispatches with these photos of their trip down from their successful ascent of Lobuche Peak. Congratulations guys!
