October 14, 2008 –Team Arrives in Pheriche Over 4,200 Meters
The group has arrived in Pheriche and are spending two nights in this small village to acclimatize. Lots to see with the local farms and the home of the HRA (Himalayan Rescue Association’s) high altitude clinic. The clinic offers an information session on high altitude, the different types of mountain sickness, prevention and facts. Sleeping here at over 4,200 meters (14, 500 feet) for a couple of nights, offers the team extra time to acclimatize and get their bodies ready for the next stop, Lobuche.
From Pheriche, on a clear day, the group will see the other side of Ama Dablam, 6,857 meters, which they have already passed. They also may get their first glimpse of Cho Oyu, 8,201 meters, in the distance.
Stay tuned for more photos and reports from the Khumbu tomorrow!
