August 18, 2006 – Ngorongoro Crater Adventures

Hi it’s Twyla calling on behalf of Andrew and I.  Since the last dispatch we have been to Lake Manyara National Park where we saw our first set of female lions which was very exciting.  We then drove up to the Ngorongoro Crater rim and settled in at the Sopa lodge for the evening.

We went early this morning into the crater and at about 6:35 am we managed to see two cheetahs on the road with just our vehicle, nobody else.  We followed them for about a half an hour to forty minutes, so that was a treat thanks to David.  We’ve seen at least two prides of lions, hyenas, hippos, pink flamingos, elephants, just so many things it’s hard to say.  One lion had 3 cubs and they were lying right up against our vehicle for about twenty minutes, it was unbelievable.  We are having a great time, unfortunately Andrew’s off today so he says ‘he’s outta here baby’, his exact quote and I’m off to the Serengeti tomorrow.  I’ll do a dispatch when I can, miss you all.
