July 1, 2007 –Summit of Kilimanjaro on Canada Day!

Uhuru Peak with its glaciers

Hey! This is Jim from The Sun’s Climb for Kids team and we are very happy to report that we have 5 successes! That’s right, we’ve all made it to top of Mt. Kilimanjaro yesterday afternoon, Canada Day, at about 3:15.

We had a great little celebration up there with a Canadian flag and we sang O’Canada. We also had a real soccer game going and brought a few wigs out…because, of course you just have to bring a few wigs when you go to Africa!? It was a beautiful afternoon. The sun was shining and we could see both Meru and Mawenzi peaks.

There were glaciers that were probably about 25-45 feet high. All throughout the summit crater of Mt. Kilimanjaro you’ll see glaciers that are massive. We spent last night in the crater camping, which was not warm. I think Rob had his thermometer at -15*C this morning. It was a wee bit chilly!
