October 17th - Leaving the Khumbu

This is Wally Berg from Lukla.

We were up in our rooms in Lukla at 5:30 AM.... by 6:30 our bags were checked and we were eating our breakfast served by Pasang, the Sherpa cook and his staff.

Then we were off in the first Yeti Airlines flight of the morning, by 9:00 AM were standing in the lobby of the Yak and Yeti, in a different world. A second breakfast at the great buffet at the Y & Y seemed appropriate and I saw Mark heading in that direction as soon as we arrived.

By 9:30 we were reunited with Steve. He looks great after a couple of days at low elevation and being in the city. Now visits to Patan and the Tibetian Refugee Centre are planned. Wongchu and the Peak Promotions staff have all our travel arrangements in order, including Amelie's trip down to Chitwan to ride elephants and look for tiger in a couple of days. There is shopping to be done. Steve has been out on the street looking for Everest Whiskey to take home to Iowa.

The Ama Dablam climbers will be leaving North America soon. This group of trekkers is going to enjoy the comforts of Kathmandu, share memories and smiles about our adventures over the past couple of weeks, spend more time with Sherpa friends and others in Nepal.
