November 19, 2007 – After a Technical Climbing Day, Team Arrives at Camp 2

Wally Berg's famous photo of Ama Dablam Camp 2

I am sitting in a tent at Camp 2 on Ama Dablam. In fact, our whole team is sitting in tents here. Mingma and I are sharing a tent and we’ve been brewing up water; melting some snow we have around the camp. Don and Jack are warmly nestled quite close to us in a tent. There is actually a photograph which has become quite famous that Wally Berg shot back in 2002, and that’s exactly where we are right now.

We can hear the winds and they are quite high, that doesn’t make us extremely happy, but we are hoping that they will die down.

Today’s climbing was the most technical climbing on the mountain, and it was a great day, everyone moved really well. We started about 8:30 at Camp 1 and made it here to Camp 2 at about 2:30. Since we arrived we have been just resting, recovering and planning our attack on the mountain later on.

It is really going to be weather dependant, but we are doing everything we need to do. We have been hydrating, eating and resting. Base camp has informed us that the Lamas in the Tengboche Monastery have performed another Puja for us. Stars should align and right now we are all enjoying ourselves.
