November 18, 2007 – Team Arrives at Camp 1

Ama Dablam Camp 1

Hi folks it’s John calling from camp one on Ama Dablam. We finally started getting into the real climbing and the team members are very happy about that. Acclimatization is needed but for a climber it is sometimes is very difficult to have the vision of that.

This camp one is a little bit further up the mountain than is typical...[ lost transmission ]... relaxing in the sun, and reading books. We just finished lunch now and earlier today we were entertained by watching another team of four descend from what they are calling camp 2.9. Some of you may know that there has been some safety issues with camp 3, a much safer spot has been utilized just below that. We were able to watch the team with a clear view this morning as they descended on the route that we will be following in the next couple of days

For now our plan today is just to rest and recover from yesterday's approach to camp 1. Everything being good, weather that is, we will be on our way further up the mountain tomorrow.
