August 21 – Fine dining above the Shira Plateau

This is August 21 and I’m at the Fischer Camp, Camp III. We arrived at camp and we can understand why this was one of Scott’s (Fischer) favourite camps. The Shira Plateau spreads out below us in all her beauty and we quickly realized the distance we have come in the last three days.

Our Chagga chef Ambrama, has cooked up a wonderful fish and chips lunch. Hal asked, “Are we really climbing Kilimanjaro or are we in France checking out restaurants?”

After a nap, we walked up to Scott’s monument where I got a bit emotional explaining to the group who Scott was. We all sensed the power and joy he brought to this place, even from the Chagga guides who expressed their feelings.
