September 24 - A Visit to the Tibetan Refuge Center

It’s very early in the morning on the 24th of September.  I’m at my normal roof top perch looking across a cool and clear beautiful Kathmandu morning.  I’m looking across to the Swayambhunath temple and enjoying the early morning peace.

Skilled Tebetan woman creating carpetsYesterday Ang Temba, Min, Leila and I were quite busy with preparations for various trips we have coming up.  We went to make selections of food items, but we also took time out to go to one of my favorite places in Kathmandu , Jawalakhel the location of the Tibetan refuge center where carpets are made.

We enjoyed watching Tibetan women, very skilled and quick with their hands, as they were making carpets and of course we visited the various show rooms and looked at carpets that we might want to own some day as well.

Kathmandu traffic continues to be an annoyance to me, its worse every season.  By the time we got back in to our part of town I was very tired of sitting in stand-still traffic and the noise and less than perfect air in Kathmandu .  Of course it’s all about mountain trips we will be on soon; the city is fascinating even if it is a bit congested.

As soon as tomorrow some of our trekking group will arrive.  Daily I have emails from the Ama Dablam climbers wondering about some last minute gear decisions for their trip coming up not too long from now.  And of course we are thinking every day about George and Janeen who have been with us for awhile now and their trip over to Tibet .  We’ll see them when they return in a few days and we are looking forward to hearing their stories.

So from Kathmandu we’ll keep you posted at least every couple of days as things begin to come together for this upcoming Berg Adventures season in Nepal .
