November 25, 2007 – The Rooster Wakes Us Up on Route Home

Thank you to our support team!

It is like a cue for a movie at 6:30 this morning, a rooster has been crowing to wake us up and let us know the skies are clear. That is good news and we know that the flights are leaving Kathmandu on time and this will help bring us closer on our way home and to our families.

Team with our sponsor child Chowang Gurume Sherpa and his father Pasang

Porters with heavy loadsNepal is an adventurous place, and it does get under your skin; that is not just a cliché it really does get to your heart. The mountains and the scenery of course, but also the people who are what keeps us coming back to Nepal. Illustrating that, this season, Ang Temba way back up on Tengboche had mentioned to us that there is a young boy 7 years old Chowang Gurume Sherpa, his father Pasang and mother are long known to Berg Adventures and in fact Pasang has been a yak man on both of my trips here in the Khumbu.  Jack, Don and I decided that we will be providing sponsorship to this young boy. He is quite bright and very quick to observe. We will be providing sponsorship for him to go to school. School is available to him, but because his parents are working they don’t have anyone to provide room and board. As they go off and working on the climbs during the various seasons he has been coming along, and so he is missing school. The three of us will support him with a place to stay; either at the Hillary school or if it deems better by his parents, he could go to Katmandu to learn English. Which ever plan they choose, we will support it.
