Lobuche Peak Base Camp - the 31st of October

This is Wally Berg calling on the 31st of October from Lobuche Peak Base Camp at about 15,800 feet. This lovely camp is one of the best locations that I have ever stayed in the Khumbu region. It’s a beautiful camp on grass, with spectacular moraines, glaciers and peaks all around, in particular we are looking straight across at Cholatse and Towoche peaks and behind us is our route on Lobuche Peak.

Yesterday we walked out from Pheriche slowly as we acclimatized. It is not very far but, moving up to this new elevation, we wanted to go slowly. Along the way we were beside ourselves at the beauty and excitement of being in these mountains. We squealed and yelped with delight at times. We were like little kids, with the peaks around us, the clear autumn sky and the excitement of the climbing to come.

David Burger was like a kid in a candy store as he eyed various routes in Cholatse and Towoche that he thought he might like to do some day.
